August 27, read through the Bible in a year.

In between Colossians and 1 Thessalonians we read one Psalm and two chapters of Isaiah.

August 27: Psalm 89, Isaiah 43, Isaiah 44 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Psalm 89, of Ethan the Ezrahite. “I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever“. A Psalm of praise to God and His covenant with David, His glory and holiness, His faithfulness to deliver His promises, but also the trouble with the unfaithful. It ends up with a plea for a speedy restoration.

Isaiah 43 speaks of the redeemer and the rebirth of Israel. This happened in 1948, and it happened in spite of Israel’s unfaithfulness only by God’s mercy, and He will do a new thing.

Isaiah 44. Israel is the chosen nation, God is supreme, idols are worthless. Sing, for the LORD has done it. God is the one “That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.”

One more verse to the “ode to Hillary Clinton” song. Hillary the Cyber Security Expert.

News item: Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will serve as a keynote speaker at the Cyber Defense Summit 2019, the cybersecurity company FireEye announced on Thursday, May 30.

“We are pleased to announce that Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will be a featured keynote at our #FireEyeSummit in October! Secretary Clinton will engage in an intimate Q&A keynote discussion,” a tweet from the company read.

This calls for one more verse to the Ode to Hillary song:

As Cybersecurity expert in making,

She still is supreme in sincerity faking.

For she was not a sloth,

no, she wiped with a cloth

her server, top secrets for hackers free taking.

It is guessed that her unsecured e-mail server had been accessed by at least five foreign entities, we will never find out who, since the server had been wiped clean using BleachBit after the server had been requested to be preserved for evidence of potential hacking.

Philadelphia Phillies erase the memory of Kate Smith. A Limerick.

A statue is covered in Philly

of legend Kate Smith. Is it really?

Exit God sing-along

Bless America song.

The Flyers have lost it – so silly.

What is going on?

A great Philadelphia Flyers tradition was that every game started with a recording of Kate Smith belting out God Bless America, and since we all know the words we made it a sing-along, and felt patriotic.

No more, somebody found out that she in 1931 recorded the song : “That’s why darkies were born” so she was obviously a racist.

Another artist recording the same song in 1931 was Paul Robeson.

This is the first time to my knowledge Paul Robeson has been by implication labeled a racist.

Have we gone insane? Why do we try to erase history?

It has been said: “if we forget history, we are bound to repeat it.”

I say “If we try to erase history it will be worse the next time around.”

February 20, read through the Bible in a year.

Today there are three chapters.

February 20: Matthew 25, Leviticus 25, Leviticus 26 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Matthew 25 begins with the parable of the ten virgins (Give me oil in my lamp, keep it burning). Then comes the parable of the five, two and one talent. the one with five made ten, the one with two doubled his talents, but the one with only one talent buried his. Jesus had his one talent taken away and be given to the one with ten talents. The moral of this parable is: Equal opportunity, not equal outcome. Finally Jesus gives the parable of the sheep and the goats, and the sheep are defined as those who do God’s will “You did it for me.”

Leviticus 25 defines the Sabbath year, a year of rest for the land,  and the year of the jubilee, the year when property is restored, rights redeemed, and slaves are set free. (As far as I know the year of the jubilee was never implemented)

Leviticus 26 tells of blessing for obedience and punishment for disobedience.

Isaiah 40, comfort for God’s people.

The circle of the earth: The Hebrew word “khûg” has a double meaning. It means circle in two dimensional geometry, it means sphere in three dimensional geometry. Since we live in time and space, the correct translation should be:

He sits enthroned above the sphere of the earth.
