Luke 11:1-28. The disciples asked Jesus on how to pray and he gave them the pattern prayer, also called “The Lord’s prayer.” On prayers, be importune, ask, seek, knock, the key verse is: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Jesus healed a mute man and some said it was by Beelzebub (the lord of flies). Jesus knew their thoughts and rebuked them.

Mark 3:20-35. After being accused of being possessed by Beelzebub Jesus began teaching in parables. He issued a strong warning: “All sins can be forgiven except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.” Jesus mother and brothers tried to meet him, but Jesus reminded all: “Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother”.

Beelzebub is the Greek form of the name Baal-zebub, a pagan Philistine god worshiped in the ancient Philistine city of Ekron during the Old Testament times. It is a term signifying “the lord of flies”. The Jews changed the name to “Beelzeboul,” as used in this passage, meaning “lord of dung.” This name referenced the god of the fly that was worshiped to obtain deliverance from the injuries of that insect.

Yet, God is sovereign!
