August 18, read through the Holy Bible in a year in Power-point, with comments.

In between the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians and his encouraging letter to the Colossians we read one chapter of Proverbs and three chapters of Isaiah.

August 18: Proverbs 12, Isaiah 23, Isaiah 24, Isaiah 25 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 12 is one chapter in the collection of Proverbs of Solomon.

Isaiah 23 records a prophecy about Tyre.

Isaiah 24 describes the LORD’s devastation of the earth. (Climate change anyone?)

Isaiah 25. After the dire prophecies of Chapter 24 the prophet Isaiah recorded this song of praise. Read verse 7 carefully and let it sink in!

In between the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and his beautiful letter to the Philippians we read one chapter of Proverbs and three chapters of Isaiah.

August 10: Proverbs 11, Isaiah 5, Isaiah 6, Isaiah 7 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 11. The list of Solomon’s Proverbs is many chapters long.

Isaiah 5. The Song of the Vineyard. The chapter starts out beautifully, but then tells of judgement. In chapter three was proclaimed two woes. In chapter five God proclaimed six more woes.

In Isaiah 6 is told the famous call of Isaiah: “Here am I, send me“. God answered by telling Isaiah of all the hardships that will come with answering such a call. The people will harden their hearts as Pharaoh hardened his.

Isaiah 7: “Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” After that promise God spoke of a coming disaster.

In between The Apostle Paul’s letter to the Galatians and his letter to the Ephesians we read one chapter of Proverbs and two chapters of Job.

July 30: Proverbs 10, Job 37, Job 38 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 10 contains some of the wise sayings of Solomon, with New Testament thoughts sprinkled in.

Job 37. Elihu continued proclaiming God’s majesty.

Job 38. The LORD intervened and answered Job out of the whirlwind.

In between the Apostle Paul’s Second letter to the Corinthians and his letter to the Galatians we read 0ne chapter of Proverbs and three chapters of Job.

July 19: Proverbs 9, Job 12, Job 13, Job 14 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 9 contrasts the way of wisdom with the way of folly.

Job 12. Job had heard enough and answered his critics.

Job 13. Job continued answering his three friends, and added a despondent prayer that contains this gem: “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.”

Job 14 contains the rest of Job’s prayer.

In between the Apostle Paul’s first and second letter to the Corinthians we read one chapter of Proverbs and the last two chapters of second Chronicles.

July 1: Proverbs 8,  2 Chronicles 35, 2 Chronicles 36 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Proverbs 8 praises the excellence of Wisdom.

2 Chronicles 35. Josiah celebrated Passover lavishly but after that he foolishly engaged king Neco of Egypt, who intended to fight somebody else. The result was that Josiah died in battle. One of the mourners was the Prophet Jeremiah and he  wrote Lamentations.

2 Chronicles 36 tells a sad story,  the reign and captivity of Jehoahaz,  Jehoiakim and Jehoiachin.  Zedekiah was granted king by Nebudchadnezzar but rebelled. This led to the fall of Jerusalem and seventy years of captivity. 2 Chronicles ends with Cyrus’ Proclamation.

Taking a pause between Romans and 1 Corinthians we read today one chapter in Proverbs and three chapters in 1 Chronicles..

June 10: Proverbs 7,  1 Chronicles 10, 1 Chronicles 11, 1 Chronicles 12 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Proverbs 7, keep the Law, Seek wisdom and above all, stay away from harlots! They will use every trick to get you!

1 Chronicles 10. The inglorious end of king Saul. He fell on his own sword and his sons were killed.

1 Chronicles 11, David was made King over Israel, after which he conquered Jerusalem and it was from then on called the City of David (as opposed to the town of David, which is Bethlehem).  The chapter also lists David’s mighty men, describing some of their deeds.

1 Chronicles 12, David’s Army grew and grew, and in Hebron David’s Army was numbered. With so many volunteers to join the army there was joy in Israel.

Today we are reading one chapter of Proverbs and three chapters in 1 Kings, taking a pause between the Acts of the Apostles and the letter of Paul to the Romans.

May 20: Proverbs 6, 1 Kings 14, 1 Kings 15, 1 Kings 16 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Proverbs 6 warns against cosigning documents with neighbors, condemns sluggards of their sleepy and lazy habits and points to the destruction of wicked men. It tells about seven detestable things to the LORD, and finally it takes a dim view of adultery, a sure way to destroy yourself and others.

Not much good in 1 Kings 14, it tells of judgment on the house of Jeroboam and his death, and Rehoboam taking over power and his death.

1 Kings 15, the evil king Abijam reigned in Judah. After his death Asa became king over Judah and he was a good king. Meanwhile in Israel Nadab reigned, and after him Baasha both doing evil things in the eyes of the LORD.

1 Kings 16 displays a depressing list of kings over Israel, Baasha, Elah, Zimri, one worse the the other, finally culminating with Ahab, the worst of them all, setting up Baal worship in Israel.

April 17, read through the Holy Bible in a year in Power-point, with comments.

While still between the gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles we stay in the Old Testament reading one chapter pf Proverbs and four chapter of Judges.

April 17: Proverbs 5, Judges 15, Judges 16, Judges 17, Judges 18 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Proverbs 5 tells of the perils of adultery and doesn’t mince words.

Judges 15. Samson defeated the Philistines with the jawbone of an ass.

Judges 16 contains the vivid story of Samson and Delilah and how he finally was captured. In his death Samson slew many more than when he lived.

Judges 17 is short, contains only the telling of Micah’s Idolatry.

Judges 18, as the Danites had failed to take their allotted land from the Philistines they wandered around and finally settled in Laish and changed the name of the city to Dan, and there they still practiced idolatry.

March 19, read through the Holy Bible in a year in Power-point, with comments.

Between the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Luke we enjoy one chapter of Proverbs and two chapters of Deuteronomy.

March 19: Proverbs 4, Deuteronomy 17,  Deuteronomy 18 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Proverbs 4: Wisdom is supreme and there is security in wisdom.

Deuteronomy 17. Anyone worshiping other Gods must have justice administered, including stoning. The Israelites will elect a King after they have entered the promised land. He must be an Israelite, not gathering riches or take many wives. He must read the scroll of the Law all the days of his life. As long as he does all these things he will reign a long time.

Deuteronomy 18, the LORD is the Inheritance for Priests and Levites. No Wicked Customs such as child sacrifice, “ or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer ” In other words: “Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.” Then the LORD gave a promise He will raise up a Prophet like Moses.

February 26, read through the Holy Bible in a year in Power-point, with comments.

As we are taking a pause between the gospel of Matthew and the gospel of Mark we enjoy reading one chapter of Proverbs and two chapters of Numbers.

February 26: Proverbs 3, Numbers 10, Numbers 11 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Proverbs 3 continues to tell of the benefits of wisdom. The verses most often quoted are ”Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will direct your paths.”

Numbers 10 tells of making two silver trumpets and with the blasts from them they finally leave Sinai, still in formation , tribe by tribe.

In Numbers 11 the people complained about eating manna every day, so God put His spirit on seventy elders to prophecy, but He also sent them quail , a delicious game bird, but after eating quail for a whole month until it came out their nostrils they got sick, and God punished the gluttons.
