February 11, read the Bible in a year in PowerPoint; with comments.

Matthew 6:1-18 continues the telling of the sermon on the mount. Jesus spoke of doing good, of fasting and prayer, do it without fanfare, in secret if possible and, above all, be sincere. He then instituted what is called “The Lord’s prayer” which really is a pattern prayer for us, short, direct, but covers the essentials. Fasting should go together with serious prayer, but make it simple.

Exodus 38 records of how the altar of burnt offerings and the basin for washing was made, continuing telling about the courtyard around the tabernacle and all the materials used.

Exodus 39 records how the priestly garments were to be made, the ephod, the breastplate, the bells and pomegranates, the mitre and undergarments and finally the words “Holy to the LORD” to be fastened to the priest’s turban.

And in Exodus 40 the tabernacle was finished, the Priests installed and finally God blessed the tabernacle with His presence when the Glory of the LORD filled it. That ends the book of Exodus.

Exodus 27, the Altar of Burnt Offering, the Tabernacle Courtyard, oil for the Lampstand.

Normally, Olive oil was never used for burning, but this Lampstand is dedicated to the LORD, so only the best will do.

Hebrews 9, the earthly sanctuary, the heavenly sanctuary, the greatness of Christ’s sacrifice.

Footnote on Joseph’s genealogy:  According to Jeremiah 36:30 Therefore thus saith the Lord of Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

Although Joseph was of the kingly line and a rightful owner of the throne of David, defunct since the captivity in Babylon, (Israel was never independent after that) this problem was solved. Jesus was adopted.

Hebrews 8, the new priestly service and the New Covenant.

Abraham did not offer in the tabernacle or in the temple, he offered up his son, Isaac on Mount Moriah, which according to legion is where now the Dome of the Rock stands as a shrine.

There is great controversy on where the temple once stood, but it is probably near the El Kos Fountain, and would partly overlap the El Aksa Mosque.
