White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is “very interested” in the idea of raising taxes through unilateral executive action.
“The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans,” Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.

The witnesses at the June 18 Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety hearing included four U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrators who formerly served in Republican Administrations—all four of whom were invited by Subcommittee Democrats to testify—and Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange. The hearing examined the Obama Administration’s push for intrusive anti-energy regulations that will cause energy prices to “necessarily skyrocket,” destroy millions of good-paying jobs, and reduce incomes for working Americans.

Background according to LA Times: WASHINGTON — A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the 5th Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups.
Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening — or why she didn’t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.
“She has not committed any crime or made any misrepresentation but under the circumstances she has no choice but to take this course,” said a letter by Taylor to committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Vista). The letter, sent Monday, was obtained Tuesday by the Los Angeles Times.
Taylor, a criminal defense attorney from the Washington firm Zuckerman Spaeder, said that the Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation, and that the House committee has asked Lerner to explain why she provided “false or misleading information” to the committee four times last year.
Since Lerner won’t answer questions, Taylor asked that she be excused from appearing, saying that would “have no purpose other than to embarrass or burden her.” There was no immediate word whether the committee will grant her request.
His budget is like a campaign manifesto.

But Congress Republicans are hardly to blame,
The blame’s on the Democrats and that’s to their shame.
They passed sixteen bills and what did they get.
Another scolding and deeper in debt.

To lead this country he is a no-show.

No budget in three years, they are out to lunch,
And the stimulus bill was anything but.
Just one more nail and their coffin is shut.
No budget is passed and what did they get.
Another five trillion to the national debt.
You tell Obama that he’s gotta go.
To lead our country he is a no-show.

The job situation is still getting worse.
The lack of investments affecting our purse.
They bailed out the banks, some on foreign soil.
Squander like that and our blood starts to boil.
They printed three trillion bucks, and what did we get?
A downgraded credit and deeper in debt.
You tell Obama that he’s gotta go.
To lead this country he is a no-show.
Gridlock the Congress! The rallying cry.
That’s how Obama has planned to get by.
The most negative spin
Is his plan how to win.
Shellacking the country to conquer; Oh my.
For a budget to pass, it’s enough to be deemed,
and that’s why our Congress is less than esteemed.
Get rid of them all!
And do it this fall,
for otherwise this very country is doomed!
With sounds of a much broken record
Obama can’t stand on his record.
We are drowning in debt!
Not a promise he kept.
Each day our debt hits a record.
