Thanksgiving Proclamation 2023 versus 1789. What a difference!

A Proclamation on Thanksgiving Day, 2023

As families, loved ones, and friends across the country come together to celebrate Thanksgiving, let us be grateful for all the blessings of this Nation and its limitless possibilities.

Throughout our country’s history, this season of reflection and giving thanks comes in good times and tough ones.  Before there was a United States of America, the Pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving in honor of their first successful harvest and the support and generosity of the Wampanoag people who made it possible.  Amid the fierce battle for our Nation’s independence, General George Washington and his troops celebrated Thanksgiving on the way to Valley Forge.  During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday to honor the blessings of our country, even as he fought to preserve our Union.

This week, Americans will gather with their loved ones and families, celebrating the love they share and the traditions they built together.  To those who are also enduring hard times or grieving the loss of a loved one, know that we are thinking of you.

We are truly a good Nation because we are a good people — the First Lady and I see it every time we travel the country because we meet so many incredible people doing the most extraordinary things.  We have met with service members, veterans, and their families, who have selflessly served and sacrificed for our country.  We have witnessed the resolve of firefighters, police officers, and first responders, who risk their lives every day to protect us.  We have seen the best of our character in the doctors, nurses, scientists, public servants, union workers, and teachers, who ensure everyone is taken care of and no one is left behind.  We have seen all the possibilities this Nation holds in the mothers, fathers, and caregivers, who work hard to build a future worthy of their children’s greatest dreams, and in young people across the country, who are the most talented, engaged, and educated generation in history.

This Thanksgiving we are grateful for our Nation and the incredible soul of America.  May we all remember that we are the United States of America — there is nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 23, 2023, as a National Day of Thanksgiving.  I encourage the people of the United States of America to join together and give thanks for the friends, neighbors, family members, and strangers who have supported each other over the past year in a reflection of goodwill and unity.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-second day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-three, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-eighth.

                                     JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR.

What is the incredible soul of America?

The name of God was not mentioned even once in any form, nor was there any form of thankfulness given, except to thank each other for a job well done. This reminds us about the people building the tower of Babel hoping to replace God with themselves. For this God confused their language, much like today: What is a woman, what is a man? You are no longer officially allowed to know; yet you are all supposed to “build back better” showing support for utter arrogance towards God. Check Isaiah 9:8-16). Contrast this with George Washington’s

      Thanksgiving Proclamation

      [New York, 3 October 1789]

By the President of the United States of America. a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted—for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions—to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually—to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed—to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord—To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us—and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New-York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

This is what built America! This is the incredible soul of America!

Day 327 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 5. Elders, shepherd the flock,  not for filthy lucre, but being examples of service and submission to God, in due time receiving a crown. Resist the devil, look to God “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” The letter ends with farewell greetings.

Joel 2 tells of the Day of the LORD. God gave a stern call to repentance. After that warning God gave this promise: “28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come. 32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.“

Day 326 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 4:12-19. The apostle reminded the believers to not be surprised when they suffer, remember it will be much worse for those who do not believe.

Joel 1. The Word of the LORD told Joel of the great locust attack, the drought and the land laid waste. Lament for the land, for the day of the LORD is near.

Psalm 119 is a meditation on the excellence of the Word of God. It it anonymous, but is most probably a collection made by David and put in its final form during the time of Ezra. The Psalm is in the form of a true acrostic with eight verses for every letter of the Hebrew alphabet, totaling 176 verses. The acrostic form makes it possible to memorize, and so the students learning the Law did, even during Jesus’ time.

Day 325 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 4:1-11. The apostle urged the believers to serve God as the end of all things is near. He told them to practice hospitality to the glory of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 20, more proverbs of Solomon. Don’t be lead astray by alcohol! Who can find a faithful man? Dishonest weights are an abomination to the Lord. Do not love sleep, or you will become poor. These are timeless proverbs, some quoted even today.

Psalm 117. The shortest Psalm of them all with only two verses, but they are full of praise.

Psalm 118. This is one of the best example of Hebrew poetry with verses repeated with only small variations. It is quoted in the New Testament in many places, even by Jesus directly.

Day 324 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 3. The apostle speaks of submission, and it is mutual, both for husbands and wives, joint heirs with Christ. We are called to be a blessing, even during suffering for doing right, “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” Remember Christ’s suffering and our redemption through his death and resurrection. Remember also Noah; 8 in all were saved to new life.

Hosea 13. The LORD showed His anger and there was to be be judgment on Israel.

Hosea 14. God promised that when Israel repented it would be restored.

Day 323 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 2:11-25. For the Lord’s sake submit to all government (even the Romans) and to your masters (employers).

Hosea 10. Because of Israel’s sin it will be taken into captivity.

Hosea 11. Yet, God will show His love for Israel.

Hosea 12. God gave His charge against Ephraim.

Day 322 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 2:1-10. Keep on growing in the word as you draw near to Jesus Christ, the chosen stone, You are His true chosen people, “ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people“, having received mercy.

Hosea 7. God continues to bemoan the iniquity of Ephraim and Judah.

Hosea 8. Because of Israel’s apostasy this prophesy was fulfilled: “For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind:

Hosea 9. The prophesy said Israel will be judged because of its sin.

Day 321 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Peter 1:13-25. The apostle Paul was telling the believers they must be holy, having been regenerated (translated: born again) and redeemed by Jesus Christ, the risen Savior, all of it foreordained before the foundation of the world.

Hosea 3. God told Hosea to reconcile with his wife, and so Israel will return to God.

Hosea 4. God gave His charge against Israel because of Israel’s Idolatry.

Hosea 5. God proclaimed judgment on Israel, Ephraim and Judah.

Hosea6. God called Ephraim and Judah to repentance, for He required mercy; not sacrifice.
