Day 278 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Timothy 3. The Apostle Paul defined the qualifications of overseers and deacons, then he “waxed eloquent” about the great mystery of godliness. It is still a great mystery, but I like it and accept it by faith.

Jeremiah 39. The fall of Jerusalem finally happened and Jeremiah was to be set free.

Jeremiah 40. Jeremiah was finally freed, most of the people were still in the old land and had a bountiful harvest, most of which then was taken away from them.

Jeremiah 41 is a historical chapter recording the insurrection against Gedaliah and the beginning of a flight to Egypt.

1 Timothy 2. The Apostle Paul reminded the believers to pray for all, including the people of authority. Then he explained the roles for men and women in the Church.

Jeremiah 36. Jehoiakim burned Jeremiah’s Scroll. Did this action result in the end of David’s line?

Jeremiah 37. Zedekiah held on to the vain hope that the Chaldeans would be defeated. Jeremiah prophesied otherwise, so he was put in prison.

Jeremiah 38. Jeremiah was in the dungeon and near death so they pulled him up to question him some more. Zedekiah feared for his life, and Jeremiah’s advice was: Give in to Babylon and you will live.

1 Timothy 1 is a personal letter from the Apostle Paul to Timothy and it starts out with a personal greeting of encouragement and a warning about false teachers, for there is no other doctrine. He encourages Timothy to remember to give glory to God for His grace and to fight the good fight. An interesting fact in this letter: No slave trader will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Jeremiah 34. Zedekiah was warned by God to give liberty to the slaves, as commanded by Him, but the slaves were not freed, so bad things were going to happen.

Jeremiah 35 tells of the obedient Recabites.

Psalm 86, a Prayer of David. A plea for help, David poured out his needs and confessed his total dependence on God to teach him His ways.

2 Thessalonians 3. The Apostle Paul requested prayer, then he warned against idleness. Finally the letter ends with a benediction.

Jeremiah 32. With everything else going on, Jeremiah bought a field, the field of Anathoth, and then he prayed for understanding. God reassured Jeremiah that the people would return.

Jeremiah 33. The restoration of Israel is foretold, and the permanence of God’s Covenant with the house of David is restated.

2 Thessalonians 1. After the customary greeting and prayer of thanksgiving, the Apostle Paul dealt with God’s final judgment and God’s glory.

Jeremiah 27. The prophecies continue; Babylon will put nations under a yoke , Judah will serve Nebuchadnezzar.

Jeremiah 28. The prophet Hananiah was proven false by events. Rather than defeating Babylon, Judah would go into captivity.

Jeremiah 29. Jeremiah sent a letter to the exiles, a letter of hope, and a promise of return “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord“. Then follows a message to Shemaiah, a not so promising message.

Psalm 85, of the Sons of Korah. A prayer of thankfulness.

1 Thessalonians 5 speaks of the Day of the Lord, no one knows the day or time. Then the Apostle Paul gave final exhortations, among them are “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Jeremiah 25. God gave Jeremiah this big prophesy: Seventy years of captivity and judgment on the nations.

Jeremiah 26. For giving bad news Jeremiah received death threats, but the priests managed to hold off the mob with pointing out what was prophesied is consistent with earlier prophecies, so he was let free (for a while).

1 Thessalonians 4. Believers live to please God and were called to purity and godliness, brotherly love and orderly life. There is comfort in knowing Christ is coming for his own.

Jeremiah 23. God will eventually raise up from the house of David the righteous branch, but until then there will be lying prophets, false prophets and empty oracles.

Jeremiah 24. Jeremiah had a vision of two baskets of figs. God gives an object lesson.

Day 270 of reading the Holy Bible in 365 days.

1 Thessalonians 3 tells of the Apostle Paul’s concern for the Thessalonians’ faith, he was encouraged by the report from Timothy. The chapter ends with a prayer that their love may increase.

Jeremiah 20. The chief priest Pashhur heard of Jeremiah prophesy and its bad outcomes, so he punished Jeremiah, which led to the word of God given to Pashhur. Jeremiah gave yet another complaint to God, this time even to the point of lamenting he was born.

Jeremiah 21. Jerusalem was doomed, and God delivered this message to the house of David.

Jeremiah 22 continues God’s messages to the House of David, the sons of Josiah and proclaimed the end of the Davidic line with Jehoiachin. This is one reason Jesus had to be adopted by Joseph to restore the Davidic line according to the gospel of Matthew.

1 Thessalonians 2. The Apostle Paul defended his motives and his conduct, they were all pure. Then he gave thanks to God for the conversion of the Thessalonians and mentioned his longing to see them.

Jeremiah 17. Judah’s sin was deep and worthy of punishment. Jeremiah gave a profound confession and delivered a beautiful prayer for deliverance. Then he reminded the people to keep the sabbath holy.

Jeremiah 18. Jeremiah went to the potter’s house and learned the importance of the potter and the clay. God’s warning was rejected by the people and Jeremiah was persecuted.

Jeremiah 19. Jeremiah bought a clay jar, went to the valley of Hinnon, later called Gehenna, proclaimed disaster over Judah and Jerusalem over their offerings to Baal or Molech and broke the clay jar to signify how big the disaster was going to be.

1 Thessalonians 1. After the customary greetings the Apostle Paul gave thanks for the Thessalonians’ good example.”Ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.”

Jeremiah 14. There was to come drought, sword, famine and pestilence. The people pleaded for mercy.

Jeremiah 15. More calamities awaited the people, for the LORD will not relent. The Prophet Jeremiah felt dejected, but the Lord reassured him.

Jeremiah 16 tells of the Day of Disaster and ends with the promise that God will restore Israel.
