Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and two chapters in 2 Samuel.

May 9: Acts 20, 2 Samuel 15, 2 Samuel 16 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 20. Paul left Ephesus and ministered in Greece for 3 months, left Greece and ministered at Troas, where on the last day there he preached on and on and a young man fell down from a third floor window and died, but was revived by Paul. Undaunted Paul continued preaching until daybreak, then he left and went to Miletus. From there he called the Ephesian Elders and when they arrived he exhorted them, said farewell and told them he would never see them again.

2 Samuel 15. Absalom revolted against David, and David escaped from Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 16 tells of Mephibosheth’s servant.  Shimel sided with Absalom and cursed David. Absalom listened to the advice of Ahithopel, a supposed man of God.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and two chapters in 2 Samuel.

May 8: Acts 19, 2 Samuel 13, 2 Samuel 14 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 19. Paul took the land route to Ephesus, where he met believers that had not even heard of the Holy Spirit. For two years Paul did many miracles there and did defeat evil Spirits, all to glorify Christ. Paul and the many believers were bad for business, which was the idol worship of Artemis (Diana). This led to the riot at Ephesus.

2 Samuel 13 details the seedy story of Amnon and Tamar, all within David’s family. David’s son Absalom then killed Amnon, after which Absalom fled to Geshur.

2 Samuel 14. Absalom returned to Jerusalem, and David forgave Absalom.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and three chapters in 2 Samuel.

May 7: Acts 18, 2 Samuel 10, 2 Samuel 11, 2 Samuel 12 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 18. Paul left Athens and went to Corinth where he stayed a year and a half, teaching many in the city, among them Priscilla and Acquila. The three of them went to Ephesus, where Paul left  Priscilla and Acquila and went to Antioch. Priscilla and Acquila met Apollos, a learned man preaching the baptism of John. “When Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.  And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:  For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.”

2 Samuel 10. David defeated the Ammonites and when they fled David defeated the Arameans (Syrians).

2 Samuel 11 is very important, it tells of  David and Bathsheba, and how he had her husband Uriah killed in battle. This displeased the LORD.

2 Samuel 12.  Nathan confronted David about his sin and David Confessed: “I have sinned against the LORD.” It tells of the death of David’s son with Bathsheba, after which a second son, Solomon was Born to Bathsheba. Finally, the chapter reverts back to war and Rabbah, a city of the Ammonites, was Captured.

Todsy we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and two chapters in 2 Samuel.

May 6: Acts 17, 2 Samuel 8, 2 Samuel 9 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 17. Paul and Silas arrived in Thessalonica, preached in the Synagogue, many people were converted, the Jews didn’t like it and a crowd attacked Jason’s home. But in Berea they were welcomed: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” The net result though was similar to what happened in Thessalonica, so Paul was escorted to Athens. Waiting for Timothy and Silas to arrive Paul reasoned with the Greeks about Jesus and the resurrection. Being Greeks they thought the resurrection was the female counterpart to Jesus, so they took him to Areopagus, where Paul gave his famous “Athens discourse”. Read it and ponder.

In 2 Samuel 8 is recorded of how David’s Kingdom expanded. The chapter also lists David’s Officials.

2 Samuel 9. Saul’s remaining son, Mephibosheth was paralyzed in both feet. David showed kindness and invited him to be part of David’s household.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and two chapters in 2 Samuel.

May 5: Acts 16, 2 Samuel 6, 2 Samuel 7 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 16. Timothy joined Paul and Silas in Lystra, in Troas Paul received “the Macedonian Call”. Lydia, a new convert was baptized at Philippi. There Paul and Silas were put in prison, but while singing praises to God their chains fell off, the Philippian Jailer, rather than killing himself asked “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” Since Paul and Silas were Roman citizens they were asked to leave secretly, but they went to Lydia’s house instead. After that they departed.

In 2 Samuel 6 the Ark was brought to Jerusalem.

!n 2 Samuel 7 God established the covenant with David. The writer also recorded David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and three  chapters in 2 Samuel.

May 4: Acts 15, 2 Samuel 3, 2 Samuel 4, 2 Samuel 5 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 15. There was much ado about circumcision, and the believers decided to decide the issue at the Council at Jerusalem, which led to  the Jerusalem decree, (in short: Abstain from fornication and from blood). Barnabas and Paul argued about Mark, so they split up, and Paul took Silas and embarked on the second missionary journey.

2 Samuel 3 starts out with a genealogy of David’s sons. Then Abner joined forces with David, Joab murdered Abner, and finally it records how David mourned Abner.

2 Samuel 4 records how Saul’s son Ishbosheth was murdered.

2 Samuel 5. David consolidated power and reigned over all Israel and captured Jerusalem. After Jerusalem was established as the City of David the Philistines were defeated.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and the first two chapters of 2 Samuel.

May 3: Acts 14, 2 Samuel 1, 2 Samuel 2 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 14. Paul went to Iconium, preached the Gospel and they threatened to stone him, so he  fled to Lystra and they did. He and Barnabas then escaped to Derbe. From there they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch where Paul strengthened the converts, after which they went back to Attalia and sailed back to Antioch where they gave a report on their first missionary journey.

2 Samuel 1, David got the report of Saul’s death. David lamented of the  death of Saul and his son, known as the Song of the Bow.

In 2 Samuel 2  David was Anointed King of Judah and Ishboseth, son of Saul was made King of Israel, which led to Israel and Judah to go to war against each other.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and the last three chapters of 1 Samuel.

May 2: Acts 13, 1 Samuel 29, 1 Samuel 30, 1 Samuel 31 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 13, Barnabas and Saul began their first missionary journey with preaching at Cyprus where Saul’s name was changed to Paul. From there they went to the Pisidian Antioch. A lot happened there, and the Jews expelled them from the region and they continued on their journey to Iconium.

1 Samuel 29, the Philistines rejected David.

1 Samuel 30, David defeated the Amalekites but his two wives were taken hostage and had to be rescued.

1 Samuel 31 tells of the death of  Saul’s sons, and how Saul himself fell on his own sword.

Today we read one chapter in the Acts of the Apostles and three chapters in 1 Samuel.

May 1: Acts 12, 1 Samuel 26, 1 Samuel 27, 1 Samuel 28 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 12. King Herod persecuted the Church putting many in prison, even Peter but Peter miraculously escaped. Herod’s suffered a violent death after giving a speech without giving glory to God.

In 1 Samuel 26 David Spared Saul’s Life a second time.

1 Samuel 27. David allied himself with the Philistines.

In 1 Samuel 28  David was among the Philistines and Saul consulted a woman with a familiar spirit, the witch at En Dor. The medium did bring up Samuel!

April 30, read through the Holy Bible in a year in Power-point, with comments.

Today we read one chapter of the Acts of the Apostles and three chapters in 1 Samuel.

April 30: Acts 11, 1 Samuel 23, 1 Samuel 24, 1 Samuel 25 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Acts 11. The Jews did not like that gentiles could receive the Holy Spirit, but Peter explained God’s Grace. Barnabas went looking for Saul and when found they went together to Antioch. It was there the believers were first called Christians, and it was from there they sent relief to fellow believers in Judea via Barnabas and Saul.

1 Samuel 23. David Saved the City of Keilah, was pursued by Sau, spending most of the time in strongholds of the wilderness.

In 1 Samuel 24  David Spared Saul’s life, staying true to God.

1 Samuel 25 records Samuel’s Death. It also tells the vivid story of David and Abigail, the Wife of Nabal.
