Today we read one chapter of Revelation and the last chapter of Zechariah

December 25: Revelation 16, Zechariah 14 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Revelation 16 is the dreaded chapter of the bowl judgements. First Bowl: Loathsome Sores, Second Bowl: The Sea turns to Blood, Third Bowl: The Waters Turn to Blood, Fourth Bowl: Men are Scorched, Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain, Sixth Bowl: Euphrates dries up, Seventh Bowl: The Earth Shaken.

Zechariah 14 is the great chapter of the second coming of Christ, here presented as the Day of the LORD, declared HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD.

John 18:28-40, Jesus taken to Pilate, to Herod, to Pilate, release Barabbas.

John 18:28-40, Jesus taken to Pilate, to Herod, to Pilate, release Barabbas.

Jesus had already eaten the Passover with the apostles. Most Jews had switched to the next day to eat the Passover since the evening sacrifice had been switched from just after sunset on the 14th of Nisan to after the ninth hour on the 14th of Nisan, or 21 hours later. (Remember, a Jewish day starts at sunset.)

Luke 23: When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean. And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him. Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing. 10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him. 11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate. 12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

Zechariah 12. The LORD issued an 0racle on the coming deliverance of Judah, then gave this prophecy: “They shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son.

Zechariah 13. “On that day” all the idols will be cut off, two thirds of the people will be scattered, but the remaining third will follow the Shepherd Savior.

John 18: 1-27, Gethsemane, the night of betrayal, Peter’s denial, from Annas to Caiphas.

John 18: 1-27, Gethsemane, the night of betrayal, Peter’s denial, from Annas to Caiphas.

The gospel of Luke adds to this account: Luke 22:49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? 50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

Zechariah 11. The LORD  proclaimed judgement on Israel, but after that comes the prophecy of the shepherds. This chapter also contains the famous quote: “I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord.

John 14:15-31, Jesus is going away and giving another Comforter.

John 14:15-31, Jesus is going away and giving another Comforter.

Another Comforter: αλλον παρακλητον ( allon parakleton) meaning one of the same kind as Jesus.

Some Muslims say the Bible has been altered and should have read perikleton rather than parakleton, claming the Bible has been falsified to fit Jewish and Christian beliefs and only the Quran is true.

This requires many steps of faith on account of the Muslims. 1. Jesus, Mary and Moses were really Muslims and spoke of Muhammad. 2. The New Testament is falsified.  3.  Ignore the Dead Sea Scrolls, and 4. When Jesus speaks of the Spirit of Truth he really means Muhammad, not the Holy Spirit as He says in verse 26.

As a Christian I am free to take God’s Word for what it says.
