Today we are reading one chapter in Paul’s letter to the Romans and the last four chapters of 2 Kings.

June 5: Romans 14, 2 Kings 22, 2 Kings 23, 2 Kings 24, 2 Kings 25 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 14. Some are weak in faith and those who are strong and can eat everything should not look down on vegetarians and vegans. Some observe the Lord’s day on the first day of the week, others still say “Sabbath is Sabbath.” Tolerate each other according too the law of liberty, for whatever is not of faith is sin, and it is not for you to judge. The law of love tells us not to flaunt one’s free drinking in front of an alcoholic among other things, for that could cause him to stumble.

2 Kings 22, Josiah is king of Judah and Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law. The reading of the law pricked their conscience.

2 Kings 23. Having repented, Josiah restored the worship and even tore down the quarters of the male shrine prostitutes and ended idol worship, but alas, too late. There still came impending judgment on Judah, Josiah died in battle at Megiddo. After that came the reign and captivity of Jehoahaz, after which Jehoiakim became king of Judah.

2 Kings 24. Things went from bad to worse, Judah was overrun by enemies, Jehoiachin became king of Judah and was taken captive, Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem and made Zedekiah nominal king of Judah.

2 Kings 25. In this final chapter came the fall and captivity of Judah. Gedaliah was made Governor of Judah and Jehoiakin was released from prison. Thus ends 2 Kings.

Blue State, Red State. How do they protect their nursing home population, and do they care?

How do Red States take care of their most vulnerable population as opposed to Blue States. There are two outstanding states, Red State Alaska and Blu state Hawaii, both with zero deaths from COVID-19 in their Long Term Care homes.

After that we can see that the difference in deaths as a percentage of all deaths in their state is not that great, except that all states where over 80% of all Corona virus deaths in nursing homes and other LTC facilities are all Blue States.

The New York statistics are misleading, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order forcing nursing homes to take in COVID patients, and when they were to ill they were taken to hospitals, died and were not counted as LTC patients any more. New Jersey more or less copied the New York order. Pennsylvania did likewise, but the health secretary Rachel Levine ralized what was happening and took her own mother out of her nursing home. Michigan had a special problem, too many COVID patients in greater Detroit nursing homes, but extra capacity in Northern Michigan, so she transferred Covid patients up north to even out the COVID load. These were all deeds of Democrat Governors.

Here is the table, per state. Three states have not reported yet.

Today we are reading one chapter in Paul’s letter to the Romans and three chapters in 2 Kings.

June 4: Romans 13, 2 Kings 19, 2 Kings 20, 2 Kings 21 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 13. Paul reminded the Romans of all people to submit to government, follow the laws, pay their taxes and debts, love their neighbor and put on Christ. Any government is better than anarchy.

2 Kings 19. The prophet Isaiah assured deliverance from Sennacherib’s threat. Hezekiah’s prayed for deliverance and Isaiah delivered the word of the LORD concerning Sennacherib. That night the Angel of the Lord slayed 185,000 men, and Sennacherib was defeated and died not long after.

2 Kings 20, Hezekiah was ill unto death, but he prayed to the LORD, and got his life extended another fifteen years. From Babylon came envoys, Hezekiah showed them every treasure in his palace, for in doing so he thought “There will be peace for our time” just like Neville Chamberlain did before WWII.

2 Kings 21, Manasseh became King of Judah, doing more evil in the sight of the LORD than even the surrounding countries. After his death Amon reigned and died, followed by his son, Josiah.

Red state – blue state. It is a matter of survival from the corona virus.

Based on the 2016 election results you have a much better chance of escaping the coronavirus if you live in a state that President Trump won. The exceptions are Louisiana, that allowed Mardi Gras to go ahead in spite of the epidemic. This affected Mississippi as well. Pennsylvania and Michigan have democrat governors, which explains a lot. The death rates speak for themselves. A standout exception is Hawaii, highly democratic, but with the lowest death rate of all!

Today we are reading one chapter in Paul’s letter to the Romans and two chapters in 2 Kings.

June 3: Romans 12, 2 Kings 17, 2 Kings 18 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 12. Paul reminds us that we shall offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God, serve God with the spiritual gifts He has given us, do it as members of one spiritual body, behave like Christians (little Christs), bless those who persecute us, and overcome Evil with Good.

2 Kings 17. Hoshea was the last King over Israel, the defeated Israelites were carried captive to Assyria, and Assyria then resettled Samaria with their own people.

2 Kings 18, Hezekiah reigned in Judah, and was threatened by the Assyrians. Sennacherib boasted against the LORD, but Hezekiah still trusted the LORD and that He would deliver His people. The chapter ends with a standoff.

June 2: Romans 11, 2 Kings 15, 2 Kings 16 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 11. Israel’s Rejection is not total, but because of their rejection of the Gospel, salvation has come to the Gentiles. Israel’s Rejection is not fatal, all Israel will be saved according to Scripture. The chapter ends with a Doxology, if you are in the habit of memorizing Scripture, this would be a good passage to memorize

2 Kings 15. The parade of Kings of Israel and Judah continues. Azariah reigned in Judah, Zachariah reigned in Israel, Shallum reigned in Israel, Menahem reigned in Israel, Pekahiah reigned in Israel, Pekah reigned in Israel, Jotham reigned in Judah, all recorded in chronological order.

2 Kings 16. This is a short chapter and deals with Ahaz , king of Judah and his dealings with the king of Assyria.

June 1: Romans 10, 2 Kings 12, 2 Kings 13, 2 Kings 14 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 10. Paul claimed that Israel too needs the Gospel, “ if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” It is true in the Gospel, that “there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek,” but Israel rejected the Gospel.

2 Kings 12. The Temple had fallen in disrepair, so Jehoash repaired the Temple. Hazael, king of Aram threatened Jerusalem but withdrew after Joash paid the ransom. After forty years reign Joash died and was succeeded by Amaziah.

2 Kings 13. One more history chapter. Jehoahaz Reigned in Judah, Jehoash Reigned in Israel, Elisha died and Israel Recaptured some cities from Syria.

2 Kings 14, Amaziah firmly ruled in Judah and he followed the law of Moses: “every man shall be put to death for his own sin.” But after a victory over the Edomites he became proud and tried to conquer Israel. This failed completely, and instead Israel broke down part of the wall of Jerusalem and raided the Temple. Finally, Jeroboam II became king of Israel, died and his son Zechariah succeeded him.

May 31: Romans 9, 2 Kings 11 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 9. After the glorious chapter 8 Paul turned his attention to Israel and their rejection of Christ, they are after all God’s Sovereign Choice and the Children of Promise. God administers justice as he seed fit: “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated,” and Israel’s unbelief was “Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”

2 Kings 11. This is a chapter full of palace intrigue: Athaliah, daughter of Ahab and Jezebel seized power over Judah and reigned for six years. Finally, Joash was crowned King of Judah, and Athaliah was put to death.

May 30: Romans 8, 2 Kings 10 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 8. This is my favorite chapter in all the Bible, and is far too important for my feeble comments. Read it together with all the Old Testament references, let them serve as the commentary; then read it again. Let it sink in, then pray with thanksgiving.

2 Kings 10. Jehu was at it big time is this killings chapter, Ahab’s seventy sons were killed, Ahaziah’s forty-two brothers killed, the rest of Ahab’s family killed, worshipers of Baal killed, and finally the normal death of Jehu himself.

Today we are reading one chapter in Paul’s letter to the Romans and two chapters in 2 Kings.

May 29: Romans 7, 2 Kings 8, 2 Kings 9 (click on the chapter to begin reading)

Romans 7. Thanks to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are free from the Law when we belong to Him. Yet, we struggle with sin; “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.” The chapter ends up with “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” It will all make sense in chapter 8.

2 Kings 8. The King Restored the Shunammite’s Land, and then Hazael murdered Ben-Hadad. The chapter lists two more kings of Judah, Jehoram and Ahaziah.

2 Kings 9, Jehu, a man of action was anointed king of Israel, Joram of Israel was killed, Ahaziah of Judah likewise, and finally Jezebel suffered the most humiliating and violent death possible, thrown out from a window, trampled to death by horses and was then eaten by dogs.
