Today we read the third chapter of the first letter of the Apostle Peter and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 11: 1 Peter 3, Ezekiel 41  (click on the chapter to begin reading).

1 Peter 3. The apostle speaks of submission, and it is mutual, both for husbands and wives, joint heirs with Christ. We are called to be a blessing, even during suffering for doing right, “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” Remember Christ’s suffering and our redemption through his death and resurrection. Remember also Noah, 8 in all were saved to new life.

Ezekiel 41. The prophet continued describing the dimensions of the Sanctuary, the side chambers on the wall, the building at the western end and the design of the temple area.

Today we read the second chapter of the first letter of the Apostle Peter and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 10: 1 Peter 2, Ezekiel 40 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

1 Peter 2 Keep on growing in the word as you draw near to Jesus Christ, the chosen stone, You are His true chosen people, “ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people“, having received mercy. Therefore submit to all government (even the Romans) and to your masters (employers).

Ezekiel 40 describes a vision the Prophet saw that described a new City and a new Temple. It was very detailed and showed the eastern gateway, the outer court, the northern and southern gateways, gateways to the inner court, where to prepare sacrifices, chambers for singers and priests and finally the dimensions of the inner court.

Today we read the first chapter of the first letter of the Apostle Peter and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 9: 1 Peter 1, Ezekiel 39 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

1 Peter 1. The apostle Paul was greeting his fellow elect pilgrims of the dispersion and reminded them of their heavenly inheritance, as they were living before God their Father. In so doing they must be holy, having been regenerated (translated born again) and redeemed by Jesus Christ, the risen Savior, foreordained before the foundation of the world.

Ezekiel 39. Things will be going bad for Gog. His armies will be destroyed and he himself will be buried in Israel, there will be a triumphant festival and Israel will be restored to the land.

In between the letter of James and the first letter of the Apostle Peter we read two Psalms and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 8: Psalm 139, Psalm 140, Ezekiel 38  (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Psalm 139, of David. God knows everything, and He knows me much better than I know myself. Fittingly, the Psalm ends up with a song: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Psalm 140, of David. A heartfelt prayer for deliverance from evildoers.

Ezekiel 38. This chapter contains great prophesy with relevance for today of the events in the Middle East.Gog and allies attack Israel but there is coming a judgment on Gog.

In between the letter of James and the first letter of the Apostle Peter we read one chapter of Proverbs and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 7: Proverbs 21, Ezekiel 37 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 21, Proverbs of Solomon. Yes, there is a difference between a wise and righteous man, and an evil, foolish and lazy man, thinking only about himself and his pleasures, and  “It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.”

Ezekiel 37. This is the famous chapter about the valley of dry bones and how they are coming alive. They shall become one nation under one King.

In between the letter of James and the first letter of the Apostle Peter we read two Psalms and two chapters of Ezekiel.

November 6: Psalm 137, Psalm 138, Ezekiel 35, Ezekiel 36 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Psalm 137. When the Jews were exiled into captivity they were forced to sing songs on their way. So somebody wrote a psalm about it. Compare that to when Paul and Silas were put in jail, they voluntarily sang songs of praise to God.

Psalm 138. David, as psalmist reminds us that God will honor His word and perform it to completion.

Ezekiel 35 is a declaration of judgment on Mount Seir.

Ezekiel 36. Now it is getting interesting. God proclaimed a future blessing on Israel and the rebirth of Israel. (I took the liberty to put in a few interesting pictures.)

November 5: Proverbs 20, Ezekiel 34 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 20, more proverbs of Solomon. Don’t be lead astray by alcohol! Who can find a faithful man? Dishonest weights are an abomination to the Lord. Do not love sleep, or you will become poor. These are timeless proverbs, some quoted even today.

Ezekiel 34. The shepherds of Israel are not true shepherds. God is  the true shepherd. “And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it.  And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.  And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.“

November 4: Psalm 135, Psalm 136, Ezekiel 33 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Psalm 135 is a Psalm of praise and thanksgiving to the uniqueness and superiority of the LORD, His name and all that He has done! Compare that to the worthless idols!

Psalm 136 is called the Great Hallel (or Great Psalm of Praise). Each one of its 26 verses repeats the phrase, “His mercy endureth forever.”  It was sung responsively by the Levites and the assembly of people at both Solomon’s and Zerubbabel’s temple dedication and is now sometimes sung or recited at the Passover Seder.

Ezekiel 33. The prophet took the role of the watchman and gave a message about God’s Judgment and it’s fairness, foretold of the fall of Jerusalem and the cause of Judah’s ruin being they were hearing but not doing, still continuing their sinful acts.

Today we read the last chapter of the letter of James and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 3: James 5, Ezekiel 32 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

James 5 begins with a stern warning to rich oppressors, much like Old Testament teaching, but this letter is to the Jews in dispersia. James told them to be patient,       persevere, meet each other’s need and above all do not swear, but let their yes be yes and their no be no. If anyone is sick, call in the elders and pray for him.  ” The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Bring back erring brothers. “Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

Ezekiel 32 is a lamentation for Pharaoh and Egypt.  Egypt and others will go down to the pit.

Today we read the fourth chapter of the letter of James and two chapters of Ezekiel.

November 2: James 4, Ezekiel 30, Ezekiel 31 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

James 4. Pride promotes strife but humility edifies when it comes from an active faith. ”Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Do not judge a brother, that is God’s domain and do not boast about tomorrow, be humble and recognize that God is in control.

Ezekiel 30. Egypt and her allies may look strong, but they will fall. The Lord  proclaimed that  Pharaoh would fall and the Egyptians be scattered among the nations.

Ezekiel 31, Egypt will be cut down like a great tree.
