November 17, read through the Bible in a year.

In between first and second Peter we read one chapter of Proverbs and the second chapter of Daniel.

November 17: Proverbs 23, Daniel 2 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 23, Sayings of the Wise. Do not be a glutton, do not desire riches, do not be a moocher, do not argue with a fool, do not change ancient landmarks, do not withhold correction from a child, do not envy sinners because they are having fun, do not drink wine to excess, do not despise your mother when she is old, honor your father and mother, keep away from harlots, stay sober and do not succumb to alcohol.

Daniel 2 contains Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and only Daniel could interpret it. Of particular interest is “Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.

November 15, read through the Bible in a year.

In between first and second Peter we read one chapter of Proverbs and the last chapter of Ezekiel.

November 15: Proverbs 22, Ezekiel 48 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 22, Proverbs of Solomon. This is a great chapter of wise advice, how to handle riches, and if not – how to come to poverty, how to raise children properly and how not to be a sluggard. It also contains some sayings of the wise.

Ezekiel 48 delineates the division of the land and tells of the Gates of the City. Finally the name of the Holy city shall be  “The LORD is there.” (“Yahweh Shammah,”)

November 7, read through the Bible in a year.

In between the letter of James and the first letter of Peter we read one chapter of Proverbs and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 7: Proverbs 21, Ezekiel 37 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 21, Proverbs of Solomon. Yes, there is a difference between a wise and righteous man, and an evil, foolish and lazy man, thinking only about himself and his pleasures. and  “It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Ezekiel 37. This is the famous chapter about the valley of dry bones and how they are coming alive. They shall become one nation under one King.

November 5, read through the Bible in a year.

In between the letter of James and the first letter of Peter we read one chapter of Proverbs and one chapter of Ezekiel.

November 5: Proverbs 20, Ezekiel 34 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 20, more proverbs of Solomon. Don’t be lead astray by alcohol! Who can find a faithful man? Dishonest weights are an abomination to the Lord. Do not love sleep, or you will become poor. These are timeless proverbs, some quoted even today.

Ezekiel 34. The shepherds of Israel are not true shepherds. God is  the true shepherd. And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the Lord have spoken it.  And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.  And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.

October 27, read through the Bible in a year.

In between the letter to the Hebrews  and James we read pne chapter of Proverbs and one chapter of Ezekiel.

October 27: Proverbs 19, Ezekiel 20 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 19, Proverbs of Solomon. There is wisdom in getting along with others, but do not give in to the wicked ones, a prudent wife is a gift is from the Lord, but a foolish son is his fathers ruin.

Ezekiel 20, Though Israel pleaded with God, He would not listen because of their rebellious idol worship. God through Ezekiel then retold the history of Israel and their idolatry and blasphemy, Israel will be severely punished, but in the en  , God will restore Israel. The chapter ends with a  prophecy against the South, God will destroy the Southern forests.

October 11, read through the Bible in a year.

In between Paul’s letter to Philemon and the letter to the Hebrews we read one chapter of Proverbs and one chapter of Jeremiah.

October 11: Proverbs 18, Jeremiah 50 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 18, Proverbs of Solomon. Let’s get along, and “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

Jeremiah 50. The judgments continue, this time against Babylon and Babylonia.

October 1, read through the Bible in a year.

In between Second Timothy and Titus we read two Psalms and one chapter of Jeremiah.

October 1: Proverbs 17, Jeremiah 32, Jeremiah 33, (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 17. In this chapter of Proverbs, Solomon speaks of wisdom, justice and family, but fools, that’s another matter.

Jeremiah 32. With everything else going on, Jeremiah buys a field, the field of Anathoth, and then he prays for understanding. God reassures Jeremiah of the return of the people.

Jeremiah 33, the restoration of Israel is  foretold, and the permanence of God’s Covenant with the house of David is restated.

 

September 23, read through the Bible in a year.

In between  First and Second Timothy we read one chapter of Proverbs and two chapters of Jeremiah.

September 23: Proverbs 16, Jeremiah 18, Jeremiah 19 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 16, Proverbs of Solomon. God looks at the heart, take heed and do what is right in the eyes of the Lord, not men.

Jeremiah 18, Jeremiah is at the potter’s house and learns the importance of the potter and the clay. God’s warning is rejected by the people and Jeremiah is persecuted.

Jeremiah 19. It is getting worse. Jeremiah bought a clay jar, went to the valley of Hinnon, later called Gehenna, proclaimed disaster over Judah and Jerusalem over their offerings to Baal or Molech and broke the clay jar to signify how big the disaster was going to be.

 

September 13, read through the Bible in a year.

Between Second Thessalonians and  First Timothy we read one chapter of Proverbs and two chapters if Jeremiah.

September 13: Proverbs 15, Jeremiah 3, Jeremiah 4 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 15, Proverbs of Solomon. Solomon speaks of the value of following the LORD and the pursuit of righteousness and virtue as opposed to folly, pride and wickedness, which God hates.

Jeremiah 3. Israel is shamelessly unfaithful, yet God is merciful and calls Israel to repent ans return.

Jeremiah 4. God makes one final call for Israel to repent, but, and this is the prophecy, there will be an imminent invasion and the nation is doomed.

 

September 5, read through the Bible in a year.

In between first and second Thessalonians we read one chapter of Proverbs and one chapter of Isaiah.

September 5: Proverbs 14, Isaiah 57 (click on the chapter to begin reading).

Proverbs 14, These Proverbs of Solomon mark the contrast between the foolish and the wise.

Isaiah 57. The LORD warns strongly against idolatry, especially the pagan god Moloch. There is peace for the contrite, but there is no peace for the wicked.
